On July 14th, I made my formal submission to Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council in support of the DLR Connector - an ambitious project that will transform how we move through Dundrum, Churchtown, and beyond across the county.
This project is a vital investment in our transport network, creating safer, more connected walking and cycling routes, and critically facilitating the delivery of new high-frequency bus services, with 2 new routes due to serve the area, each with services up to 6 times per hour in both directions.
The project will improve everyday journey times, reduce congestion, and support healthier, more liveable communities. As the Green Party councillor for Dundrum, I fully support this vision.
My submission offers constructive input to help strengthen the scheme further, with a focus on:
Seamless integration with the BusConnects A Spine, ensuring better and more frequent public transport access for all across Ballinteer, Churchtown, Dundrum and Nutgrove;
High-quality public realm design - from footpaths and lighting to tree planting and safe crossings;
A much-needed opportunity to reimagine how space is shared on streets like Barton Road East, prioritising safety, greenery, and accessibility over informal parking on grass verges;
Clearer planning around construction impacts and communication with residents; &
Real opportunities to enhance underused green spaces, like the woodland strip beside Leicester Celtic's Damien Duff Park.
This is not just a transport project—it’s about making our neighbourhoods safer, greener, and more inclusive.
I’m encouraging residents to engage constructively and help ensure we get this right. The DLR Connector can and should be a flagship project for sustainable transport in our county.
Let’s back progress - because cleaner, safer streets don’t just happen. They’re built.
